We do not know if we are in-tune or out of tune with today’s wine preferences but for many centuries, it has been the dry (non-sweet) wines that have ruled the world of wines. They were written about, praised, and even sold at incredibly bloated prices.
If no one has looked around lately, American tastes have changed. Our entire society is currently deluged with sweet drinks from fancy coffee to sweet tea to soda pop and even sweetened dairy based drinks, so why should all of our wines be dry. Unfortunately, the less expensive sweet wines were often looked on as the cheap perfumed harlots of the wine world and were to be sneered at, made fun of and to be avoided at all costs lest these beverages become popular.
In a blast of patriotism, modernization and a headlong dive into 21st century, Barefoot Cellars, one of the stalwart advocates of truly American wines, has launched a new series of very affordable wines that are directed at the sweets loving American population and all in time for summer. These new wines are not the simple, characterless, sugary sweet alcoholic grape juice of bygone days, but are well made, carefully thought out wines designed to deliver a true wine flavor and aroma. What is much more important, they perfectly compliment the current trends in American tastes of both food and drink, which have changed dramatically in the past thirty years. To put in modern American, don’t knock ‘em till you tried ‘em.
